Social media campaigns can get your content in front of a whole new audience. If you want to make sure your efforts are working towards the same end goal, you gotta be prepared. Social media strategist Jamey Brown recently authored an article sharing five questions you need to ask before you start your next social media campaign.

1. What are my short term and long term goals?

Figure out what you’re trying to do before you do anything. Common social campaign goals include driving additional website traffic or generating new leads.

2. Can I focus on one strategy or do I need more?

According to Brown, “Sometimes, multiple strategies are needed if you have multiple large goals to achieve.” This doesn’t mean that your tactics should be all over the place and feel bipolar. Have a cohesive plan and execute accordingly.

3. What tactics should I use to meet my goals?

This is your step-by-step action blueprint, so pay careful attention to how you will meet your goals. Do you want to incorporate paid social media, or hashtags, videos, contests, etc.? You gotta know before ya go!

4. Will my strategy fulfill both my short and long term goals?

It can be easy to get sidetracked on the immediacy of the moment with social media. Make sure you’re setting yourself up for success all the way down the line.

5. What’s my timeline?

How quickly do you expect to accomplish the goals you’re setting? This can help you allocate resources and set benchmarks to monitor your progress. Pick a timeline and stick to it.

How will you use Brown’s suggestions before you start your next social media marketing campaign?
